Owen Henry Kean

Owen Henry Kean 80, of Emmett, a dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013 surrounded by family and friends. He was born March 16, 1933 in Detroit the son of the late William and Edna (Wischman) Kean. His marriage to Patricia Kavanagh was August 19, 1961 in Lansing. Owen was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Emmett and former council president. He was a former Emmett Township Supervisor from 1969 to 1972 and 1993 to 2008 and enjoyed a total of 51 years in township government. He moved to Emmett in 1943 and graduated from Yale High School in 1951. He served his country with the United States Army during Korea from 1953 to 1955. After his service, he became a lifelong dairy farmer and retired in 1996. He continued crop farming until 2011. Owen joined the Knights of Columbus in 1957 and was past Grand Knight of the John F. Farrell Knights of Columbus Council #7918, Emmett and 4th degree member of the Richmond council #480. He was a member of the Emmett Lions Club and Yale American Legion Post 320. He is survived by the love of his life, Patricia of 52 years and son and daughter-in-law, William and Jeanie Kean of St. Clair, daughters; Therese Kean of St. Clair, Lisa and Bill Fistler of Richmond, Sue Kean-Smith of Bay City and Eileen and Roger Wesch of Avoca; son-in-law, Richard Mancini of Lapeer; special son of the heart, Daniel (Michelle) Siegel of Brockway Twp; 15 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; aunt, Helen Kavanagh; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Maureen and Jack Mackey of Avoca and Margaret and Pat Gleason of Attica; sisters-in-law, Gert Kean of Avoca, Doris Closser of Canton, Donna Baker of Lansing and Kathleen Zipperer of Jacksonville, FL along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter Margaret (Meg) Mancini June 18, 2013; brother, Thomas Kean; brothers-in-law, Don Closser, Tom Baker and Harry Zipperer and nephews Mark Baker and Patrick Gleason Jr. The family honors the memory of Owen and invite you to visit and share memories Wednesday 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with rosary devotion service at 7:00 p.m., at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Richmond. Rite of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Emmett, with 10:00 a.m. visiting. Fr. Jim Kean will officiate, Fr. Tom Kuehnemund and Fr.
