James Michael Walsh

James Michael Walsh 69, of Richmond, died Monday morning September 22, 2014, at Blue Water Hospice Home, Marysville, after a courageous battle against cancer. He was born Wednesday, May 9, 1945, in Pontiac the son of the late Peter J. and Edna (Croak) Walsh. His marriage to Betty Anne Bentley-Corbat was Tuesday, July 8, 1969, in Mt. Clemens. Jim served his country with the United States Army from 1962 to 1967 stationed in Germany, Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of the James Coleman V.F.W. Post # 6802, Richmond and the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 324. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator and for the previous 20 years for Dan’s Excavating, Shelby Township. Jim loved tractors, farming and spending time with his family. Surviving in addition to his wife Betty of 45 years are a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Douglas Schoenberg of Richmond son and daughter-in-law, Kary and Judy Corbat of Smiths Creek; six grandchildren, Megan (Mike) Parslow, Douglas (Chelsie Sparks) Schoenberg, Christopher Corbat, Cathy (Adam) Sopha, Keith (Stephanie) Corbat and Kevin (Allie Johnson) Corbat, seven great-grandchildren, Landon, Chase, Mason, Brady, Colton, Riley and Nolan; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Patti of Columbus and Mike and Marie of Armada, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann and Richard Neiman of Avoca and Eileen and Mark Butz of Cincinnati, OH; sister-in-law, Mary Weingartz of Lenox and several nieces, nephews and friends. His daughter Kelly Corbat (1981) and his brother Peter Walsh preceded him in death. The family honors the memory of Jim and invite you to visit and share memories Tuesday 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Richmond, with rosary devotion/scripture services at 7:00 p.m. Rite of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Richmond, with 10:00 a.m. visiting.
