Audrey Ellen Kersten

Audrey Ellen (Cody) Kersten 75, of Capac, passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at Mt. Clemens Regional Medical Center, Mt. Clemens, surrounded by her children. She was born in Detroit June 16, 1934, the daughter of the late William “Bill” and Margaret (Palmer) Cody. Audrey and G. Robert “Bob” Kersten were united in marriage August 10, 1954 in Emmett. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in August of 1979. Bob passed away November 10, 1979. Audrey was a 1951 graduate of Capac High School, attended the University of Detroit and Wayne State University where she received her teaching certificate. She taught for many years in several area schools. Audrey was loved by her 16 children. Surviving are children, Melinda (Mark) Ackley of Durand, Bob (Deanna) Kersten of Ruby, Billy Kersten of Emmett, Beth (Chris) Wylin of Armada, Melissa (Mike) Bollaert of Allenton, Lisa (Tom) Brennan of Yale, Kate (Rick) Vanlerberghe of Chesterfield, Brad (Ellen) Kersten of Yale, Barry (Michelle) Kersten of Memphis, Christine (Rich) Cicholski of Georgia, Bryant (Marhiya) Kersten of Yale, Bernie (Gina) Kersten of Grand Rapids, Julie Bieke of Armada, Laurie (Chris) Stone of Lansing, and Bridget (James) Iovan of Redford and son-in-law Charlie Brennan of Avoca; 34 grandchildren, Kristen (Al) Kennedy, Kelly (Zoltan) Kovach, Katie Ackley, Bob (Jamie) Kersten, Ryan, Courtney, and Cody Kersten, Audrey (Ryan) O’Connor, Kerrie (Ryan) Hyde, Haylie Brennan, Chris (Megan) Wylin, Shawn Wylin, Michael and Casey Bollaert, Michael, Tommy and Ashley Brennan, Eric, Elizabeth and Alyssa Vanlerberghe, Chad, Garrett and Alaina Kersten, Barry and Carly Kersten, Taylor Cicholski, Justin, Kenedie and Brennan Kersten, Joey, Jake and Kersten Bieke, Ryan Stone and Ella Grace Iovan; seven great-grandchildren, sister, Elaine (Don) Rawlins; sister-in-laws, Marion Stiehr-Barnes of Toledo and Dorothy Bromley of Marysville as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceding her in death are her daughter Margaret Brennan (2004), her mother (1953), father (1985), brothers, Bill (1948) and Jerry (1943), and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Her family honors the memory of Audrey and invites you to visit and share memories Saturday 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Richmond. Rosary devotions will be at 6:00 p.m. Sunday. Rite of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Emmett, with 10:00 a.m. visiting. Fr.
