Virginia Lea McKernan

Virginia Lea McKernan 74, of Peck, died Friday December 16, 2005 at Port Huron Hospital, Port Huron. She was born December 12, 1931 in Speaker Township, the daughter of the late R. Lee and Velma Gardner Putney. Her marriage to John R. McKernan was September 5, 1953 in Yale. John passed away November 22, 1971. Virginia was a Bank One retiree of the Peck branch. She was a Peck Library volunteer, Peck Centennial Committee member and former Village of Peck councilperson. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law Rick and Jeanette of Lexington; 2 daughters and sons-in-law Polly and Dane Frost of Sandusky and Rebecca and Tom Paton of Port Huron; grandchildren Bob, Melody, Scott and Jason; great-grandchildren Trenton, Stephen, Marsha and Michelle; sisters Louise Sharrard of Peck and Shirley Norris of Fort Gratiot and several nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister Jean Smith. Her family honors the memory of Virginia and invite you to visit and share Sunday 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Yale, and attend funeral services 11:00 a.m. Monday with 10:00 a.m. visiting. Rev. Catherine W. Hiner, pastor of Buel United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Elk Township Cemetery, Peck. Memorials are suggested to “Wishes of the Family”.
