Mary Caroline Montney

Mary Caroline Montney 70, of Mussey Township, passed away peacefully Monday morning December 7, 2009, at home surrounded by the love her family. She was born April 16, 1939, in Palms, MI to the late Mary (Stroschein) and Emil Abend. She was a 1958 graduate of Deckerville High School and was a proud member of 4-H for 8 years. Mary and James Byron Montney were married April 22, 1963, in Deckerville. She was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church of Capac. Mary worked in a factory for many years and farmed along side her husband. Mary and Jim loved to travel and explore Michigan and the southeastern United States. She also loved to entertain and was the hostess of many celebrations at their home. Those who attended these celebrations were often surrounded by the beautiful flower gardens that Mary grew. She loved to dig in the earth and had a knack for bringing beauty out of whatever she grew. When it came to her grandchildren, she was very devoted and faithfully attended whatever activity they were involved in, proud to be their grandmother. If you were in need in any way she was the first one there to help. Mary is survived by her husband of 46 years Jim, sons, Nathan (Deanna) of Capac, Russell of Shelby Twp., Christopher, Joseph and Jason (Stephanie) all of Capac; grandchildren, Alexander, Olivia, Zachary, Jacob, Remington, Joseph, Molly and Garrett all of Capac; sisters, Phyllis (Herb) Messing, Minnie (Doug) Varney, Lois (Dale) Abbott, Emily (Nick) Nichols and brother Emil (Marlene); sister-in-law, Linda (Garnett), Thomas and Arlene Montney; brothers-in-law, Jack Montney and Carl Day and many nieces, nephews and friends including special friends, Lydia and Bob Parks, Sherry Vollen and Mary F. Montney. She was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Ron Johnson, Rod Varney, Robert Montney and Dave Montney and sister-in-law Lucille Montney. Her family honors the memory of Mary and invites you to visit and share memories Wednesday 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Capac. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Zion United Methodist Church with 10:00 a.m. visiting. Rev. Dale Browne and Rev. Lisa Clark will co-officiate. Burial will be in Capac Cemetery, Capac.
