Mary A. Mackey Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mary A. Mackey 74, of Capac, Michigan died Saturday March 5, 2011, in Chandler, Arizona after a brief illness. Mary was born August 1, 1936 in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Elnore Johanning McCarthy Halverson and the late Francis McCarthy. She married Richard Mackey on April 21, 1956, at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska. He passed away December 23, 1995. Mary was a parishioner of St. Nicholas Church in Capac, where she was also a member of the Altar Society. She served on the Capac Library Board, the Capac Historical Society, and the Council on Aging. She was a member of the Capac Athletic Boosters Club and a 4-H Leader for many years. In 2005, the Capac Senior Center named Mary their Volunteer of the Year. She enjoyed her family and friends, traveling, sewing, reading and the arts. Surviving are her children Coleen and her husband Dan Marin of Castle Rock Colorado, son, Bruce Mackey and his wife Tammy of Wentzville, Missouri, daughter, Tracy Mackey and her husband Larry Quinn of Tempe, Arizona, daughter, Kelly and her husband Michael Spradlin of Lapeer, Michigan and son Chris and his wife Lisa of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan. Her greatest joys were her twelve grandchildren: Michael Spradlin and his wife Jessica Lucas and Rachel Spradlin, Tyler and Kevin Quinn, Pilar and Christian Mackey, Brent and Scott Marin, and Alex, Jordan and Nathan Mackey. She is also survived by her sisters Shirley (husband Allen) Pipke, Irene (husband Joseph) Bomkamp, Kathleen (husband Dick) Sommers, Ann (husband Larry) Miller and sister-in-law Sharon McCarthy. Preceding her in death are brothers Dean, Carl and Patrick. Her family honors her memory and invites you to visit and share memories of Mary at the Kaatz Funeral Directors, Capac, on Friday, March 11 from 4:30 to 8:30 pm, with Rosary devotion at 8:00 p.m. Rite of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Saturday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with Fr. Suresh Rajaian officiating. Burial will be at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-Kenockee Cemetery in Emmett, Michigan. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Capac Public Library, the Capac Historical Society or the St. Nicholas Church.
