Lois Ann Pykosz

Lois Ann Pykosz 77, of Mussey Township, died July 11, 2008 at home. She was born May 21, 1931 in Conehatta, Mississippi the daughter of the late Coleman and Mary Goodwin Crumpton. She was the fifth of five children and a twin to her brother, Lewis. She was raised in Alabama and moved to Michigan as a young woman where, working as a waitress, she met and married one of her regular customers, a policeman named Richard Arthur Pykosz at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Detroit, April 16, 1954. Ann will always be remembered as a consummate caregiver. Realizing her vocation to be a mother early on, she performed her responsibilities with a fierce love and dedication to not just her own children and grandchildren, but to nieces, nephews and neighborhood children. She was a loyal wife to Richard for 52 years and kept an immaculate house. The qualities that describe her best include: proud, determined, outspoken and frugal. However, she was always generous with her love and time. During the 1970’s she was a teacher's aide for the Capac Community School System. She managed to find time to do volunteer work, most notably at her parish, St. Nicholas Catholic Church, as a catechist and later as a member of the Altar Society performing such duties as leading the rosary and stations of the cross, cleaning and decorating the church for special occasions. In the early 90's she shepherded a pro-life “Teens for Life” group from St. Clair County and went to Washington D.C. with them for the annual “March for Life”. Her hobbies include gardening, sewing, quilting, canning, reading, watching Westerns, doing crossword puzzles and keeping us riveted with spooky stories and adventures from her youth. She is loved by all and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her husband Richard and five daughters, Mary Ann Dunavant (John), Joannie Ruhstorfer (Robert), Vicki Benedict (Michael), Karen Zom (Thomas) and Constance Meech (Stephen); sixteen grandchildren, Robert Radatz, Bonnie Shrewsberry, Arianne Ruhstorfer, Robert Ruhstorfer, Richard Ruhstorfer, Becky Treash, Tracey Anargyros, Kristi Maxwell, Katie Benedict, Kelly Wisniewski, Thomas Zorn Jr., Maria Zorn, Connor Meech, Iris Meech, Reece Meech and unborn baby, Curtis Meech; eleven great-grandchildren, Hailey, Becca, Steven, Emma, Mackenzie, Jake, Lilliana, Zachary, Evan, Cameron and unborn baby boy Shrewsberry; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by grandchildren Rebecca Ann Radatz and Jennifer Benedict. Her family honors the memory of Ann and invite you to visit and share Sunday 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. Monday at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Capac. Rite of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Capac, with Fr. Charles Ratnasamy, associate pastor will officiate.
