Jason Oliver Shinn

Jason Oliver Shinn 92, of Fremont Township, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at United Hospice Residence, Marlette, He was born in Pellston, October 1, 1922, the son of the late George and Eva (Williams) Shinn and moved to Fremont Township in 1953. His marriage to Mary Lou Severance was July 2, 1949, in Bellaire. After nearly 54 years of marriage, Mary Lou passed away June 23, 2003. Jason found love again and married Tiena June (Baraboll) Britton on December 23, 2005, at Bethel Missionary Church, Roseburg. Jason served his country with the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946 during World War II. He traveled abroad on the U.S.S. Wisconsin as a Gunner’s mate and mount captain of 5”/38 caliber guns. Jason was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Yale where he was the Sunday school superintendent. He later attended Roseburg and Brown City Missionary Churches. He was a dairy farmer on his own farm, Brown Rd. Fremont Twp, for over 50 years before his retirement in 2004. He was a member of the Nation Dairy Herd Information Association for 8 years and a M.A.B.C. board member for 8 years. Jason enjoyed traveling in the United States. Surviving in addition to June, his wife of nearly 9 years are three daughters Vicki Garrett of Florida, Janis Shinn of Mt. Pleasant and Phyllis Shinn of FL., three sons and daughters-in-law Ted and Donna, Bob and Patti and Jeff and Jodi Shinn, all of Croswell; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Oshana of Chicago and Orpha Shinn of Bellaire; stepsons, Randy (Cindy) Britton of Fowlerville and George (Daryl) Britton of Lapeer, stepdaughters, Beth-Ann (Jeff) Myers of Hilliard, OH and Marcia (Mark) Schwarck of Kingston; 12 step-grandchildren; three great-step grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marion Fallus of PA and several nieces, nephews and many friends. He is preceded in death by siblings, George Wilbur Shinn (1985), Charles Wesley Shinn (1990) and Edith Shinn Olmsted (2006). The family honors the memory of Jason and invite you to visit and share memories Monday 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Yale. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Brown City Missionary Church, with 10:00 a.m. visiting. Rev. Jim Jordan, retired, will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona.
