George Henry Stafford

George H. Stafford 58, of Melvin went home to be with his LORD in Heaven, on Friday, November 19, 2010. Only 7 months after being diagnosed with Melanoma. George was born in Detroit on October 25, 1952, to Donald and Betty (Curtis) Stafford. He graduated from Yale High School in 1970. He married Delores (Gerlach) Stafford on September 15, 1973, at Emanuel Redeemer Lutheran Church, Yale. George worked for London's Dairy, Port Huron and then Country Fresh Dairy Flint and Livonia, as a truck driver, delivering milk to many of the area stores and schools for 34 years. George was an active member of his church and loved doing God's work. In his early years, George played softball and bowled on many area leagues. As an active father, he coached for many years including youth basketball, Little League, Babe Ruth and Peck High School Baseball. He enjoyed working with the young people of the area and was a referee and umpire. George was an avid runner, doing many 5K & 10K races. He had completed 14 marathons and a 50 miler and was lovingly known as the “Hogtown Trotter”. George is survived by his wife Delores, sons George (Kristi) (grandchildren Kaylie and Brayden) of Jeddo, Christopher (grandchildren Tate, Asher & Bryce) of Mt. Washington KY, Jeremy (Jodi) (grandchildren Peyton & Paige) of Mt. Washington KY, and Scott (dear friend Jennifer Bender) of Midland. He leaves a very large and loving family including his father Donald Stafford; brothers, Charles (LuAnn), Dale, Donald (Kathy), sister Linda (Steve) Kimball mother and father-in-law Marvin and Janet Gerlach, sister-in-law Janice (John) Priess, brother-in-law Marvin (Rhonda) Gerlach and many nieces, nephews and a multitude of family and friends. George was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Stafford and nephew, Derek Stafford. His family honors the memory of George and invites you to visit and share memories Monday 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Yale, Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Emanual Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church, Yale, with 7:00 p.m. funeral services.
