Fern Demaray Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Fern Demaray 91, of Melvin, died Thursday morning October 16, 2008 at United Hospice Residence, Marlette. She was born June 11, 1917 in Melvin the daughter of the late Orval J. and Blanche (Tibbits) Groat. Her marriage of 70 years to Frank Demaray was in Melvin on August 29, 1935. Frank died December 26, 2005. Fern was a lifelong homemaker and was a member of Brown City Baptist Church and enjoyed sewing, needlework, and puzzles. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Dick Hazel of Peck and Linda and Mel Brown of Grand Rapids, daughter-in-law, Vi Demaray of Melvin, nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons, brothers, Raymond and Lewin Groat and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her death was a son Robert (1985), great-granddaughter Michelle Lyn Steinman (1980), three sisters, Ethel, Leatha and Treasure and brother, Marshall. Her family honors the memory of Fern and invite you to visit and share Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Yale, and attend funeral services 11:00 a.m. Saturday with 10:00 a.m. visiting. Rev. Paul Gaymon, pastor of Faith Baptist Church, Brown City, will officiate. Burial will be in Speaker Township Cemetery, Sanilac County.
