Eugene Thomas Lottie

Eugene Thomas Lottie 76, of Emmett Township, passed away Friday, February 25, 2011 at St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Detroit on December 25, 1934, the son of the late Glenn and Marie (Pelletier) Lottie. His marriage to Nancy Lawrence was September 29, 1956, at Our Lady of Good Council, Detroit. Eugene served his country with the United States Navel Reserves for eight years. Eugene was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Emmett and past president of the Ushers Club at St. Athanasius Parish, Roseville. He was a 1953 St. Joseph High School graduate and continued his education at University of Detroit, Eastern Michigan and Walsh College where he earned his accounting and business degrees. Eugene worked for Chrysler Insurance for 32 1/2 years as the regional claims manager and was the current President of Planning Commission for Emmett Township. Eugene was always outdoors, where he enjoyed mowing grass, gardening, and restoring classic cars. He was an animal lover including his favorite cats Trouble & Wild Thing. “Eugene was a gentle, humble and patient man. He was a devoted father and the best dad.” Surviving in addition to Nancy, his wife of 54 years, are four daughters and three sons-in-law, Linda (Mark) Taylor of Emmett, Lori Modad of Holland, Lisa (Arthur) Hull of Emmett, and Beanie (Darren) VanHouzen of Royal Oak; two sons and a daughter-in-law, John Lottie of Holland and Thomas (Jayne) Lottie of Mussey Township; 19 grandchildren, Jenni (Michael), Amy (Clint), Katie, Becky (Michael), Jacob, Sara, Carly, Annie, Ben, Kelly Jr., Kyle, Melissa (Nic), Michael, Meghan, Athena, Thomas Jr., Preston, Clayton, and Nicholas, four step-grandchildren, Jeanette, Mathew, Christine, and Adam, three great-grandsons, Brendan, Draper, Blake, three step-great grandchildren; siblings, Betty (Edward) Pollock of Romeo, Annette (Robert) Avolio of Sterling Heights, Susan Hayden of Richmond Township, and Glenn (Pat) Lottie of Brethren, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. His family honors the memory of Eugene and invites you to attend his memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Emmett with 10:00 a.m. visiting. Fr. Tom Kuehnemund, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Kenockee Township Cemetery, Kenockee Township. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
