Edna M. Winkler

Edna Marie Winkler 90, of Yale, died Sunday, June 19, 2011, at St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron Hospital. She was born April 30, 1921, in Harbor Beach the daughter of the late Robert and Henrietta (Messing) Miller. Her marriage of 51 years to Donald W. Winkler was October 19, 1946 in Yale. Donald died December 1, 1997. She was a 1939 graduate of St. Augustine High School, Richmond, and earned her Associates Degree in general education from St. Clair County Community College while in her sixty’s. Edna was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yale, and a member of the Altar society and St. Mary’s Guild. Edna and Don were one of the original volunteers at the Yale We Care Resale and she had worked there until April. She enjoyed canning vegetables from her family garden, bingo, reading, riding her exercise bike and keeping a daily journal. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gerald and Judy of Stanton and Jeffrey of Yale; six daughters and five sons-in-law, Barbara and Tony Davis of Yale, Susan and Dale Manthei of Traverse City, Marilyn and LaVern Dutkavich of Escanaba, Patricia and Chet Dziak of Lansing, Pamela Winkler from Fort Gratiot and Donna and Craig Kettlewell of Avoca; 14 grandchildren, Jerry (Wendy), John (Tricia) James (Jen), Jason (Jenny) and Justin Winkler, Tammy (Ron) Morency, Michelle (Dennis) Crowe, Brent (Martina) Manthei, Lisa Manthei, Michael (Shannon) and Kevin (Stephanie) Dutkavich, Tomm (Jennifer), Kris (Jennie) Driver and Scott (Heather) Winkler, 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marian Boike of Yale and Clara Miller of Smith Creek and several nieces, nephews and friends. Her son Paul (2009), grandson Tony A. Davis Jr. (1996) and nine siblings, Don, Eleanor Jacobson, Mary O’Neil, Lucy Young, Irene Oxnam, George, Raymond, Edward and Robert, preceded her in death. Her family honors the memory of Edna and invites you to visit and share memories Tuesday 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Yale, with rosary devotion at 6:00 p.m. Rite of Christian Burial will be 12:00 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yale, with 11:00 a.m. visiting.
