Catherine Mackey Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Catherine Mackey, 103, of Emmett entered into Eternal Life on Thursday, November 3, 2011. She was born in Emmett, Michigan on November 23, 1907 to the late Edward and Johanna Gleason. She married Leo Bernard Mackey on September 11, 1943. Leo died on July 30, 1963. In addition to being employed as a clerk and an accountant at many stores, Catherine opened a restaurant in Willis, Michigan. When she eventually sold the restaurant, the new owners asked her to continue providing donuts and pies for them since her home baked goods were so delicious. Catherine loved to crochet and was also well known for her numerous other crafts. She loved children and reading and loved her Detroit Tigers. Catherine was greatly devoted to her Lord and the Blessed Mother and she prayed multiple rosaries each day. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Edsel Dunn, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her younger siblings, Helen Butler, Tom Gleason, James Gleason, Gerard Gleason, and Mary Jo Dunn. Her family honors the memory of Catherine and invites you to visit and share memories on Sunday, November 6, 2011 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a rosary devotion at 7:00 p.m. at the Kaatz Funeral Home in Yale. The Rite of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2011 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Emmett with a 10:00 a.m. visitation. Fr. Tom Kuehnemund will officiate. Burial will be in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the wishes of the family. We will miss this very special lady who has generously shared her life with us and the wonderful lessons she has taught us.
