Aloysius Raymond Nowakowski

Aloysius Raymond Nowakowski 90, of Emmett, died Sunday March 17, 2013 surrounded by his family at his son's home. Aloysius was a teacher in his career and in his entire being. He taught as a professor at St. Clair County Community College where he prepared thousands of students for jobs and life. He taught outside of the classroom as a teacher mentor, as a coach on many playing fields and as an example of a man of high integrity and gentleness as a father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. He was generous and artistic and made many people happy with his talents. Aloysius leaves behind his first and only sweetheart of 64 years Frances (Bock). They together raised ten children on the farm they loved in Emmett. Al loved his family and supported each of their endeavors with enthusiasm and pride. In addition to his ten children he enjoyed exchange students from around the world and impacted kids in Nepal and Ethiopia as an ambassador of education. Al was proud of his country and served with distinction in the United States Coast Guard. He was proud of his Polish ancestry and led his family in the love of their heritage. Al was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Emmett and prayed with special devotion when reciting his Polish prayers he learned as a young boy. He lived each day as a man of great faith. Al was a former Lions member and a 4-H leader. He shared many wonderful winters with life-long friends in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida. In addition to his loving wife Frances, Al leaves behind his son John (Martha), daughters, Cathie (Jeff), Diane (Chuck), Mary (Jeff), Susie (Laurent) and Margie (Allen); daughter-in-law, Glenda Nowakowski; grandchildren, Veronica, Matthew, Nathan, Stephen, Adam, Lorna, Tyler, Lorena, Carson, Lewis, Rudy, Grant, Marie, Carmen, Hector and Calvin, great-grandchildren Madison and Violet; sister-in- law, Dolores Jonasz, many nieces and nephews and dear friends all over the world. He is predeceased in death by sons James, Joseph and Michael and daughter Carol. The family honors the memory of Al and invite you to visit and share memories Wednesday 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Richmond. Rite of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-Kenockee Catholic Church, Emmett, with 10:00 a.m. visiting. Fr. Tom Kuehnemund, pastor, will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army, 2000 Court Street, Port Huron MI 48060.
